Season of Migration to the North

Frequently named the most important Arabic novel ever written, Tayeb Salih's masterpiece is the story of a Sudanese man returning home from Europe, and of the other man he finds waiting there with a darker history. It is formally brilliant, morally serious, and shockingly contemporary. That it took so long to reach Western readers is itself a kind of argument for everything this bookshop stands for.
